What is Drygiene™?

DRYGIENE™ is an all-natural, super-absorbent, anti-bacterial drying powder to control humidity, suppress ammonia and reduce bacteria in your barns. Use DRYGIENE™ as part of your facility-management program to maintain a much drier environment.

HOW IT WORKS

DRYGIENE™ is an effective ammonia-reducer. Apply DRYGIENE™ on floors or in bedding to reduce the ammonia level in facilities. This results in more comfortable animals and caretakers.

DRYGIENE™ is an effective bacteria-reducer. Application of DRYGIENE™ after washing, disinfecting and drying can further reduce bacteria levels 2-6 times more than washing, disinfecting and drying alone.

Adding DRYGIENE™ to your farm bio-security and hygiene programs may reduce instances of illness and
subsequently improve performance.

Typical Uses

  •  Apply with a blower in newly washed and disinfected swine and poultry facilities.

  • Apply to heat mats and directly onto newborn piglets in farrowing facilities.

  • Mix with bedding for turkeys, horses, pigs, cattle and other animals.

  • Use as a dry boot-dip behind a wet disinfectant boot-dip in bio-security protocols.

  • Apply with a blower inside newly washed and disinfected livestock trailers.

  • Apply weekly with a blower or sifter inside farrowing, nursery and finishing facilities for bacteria and ammonia reduction.

  • Apply to spills of any kind to aid cleaning.

  • Apply to any area you need to keep clean, dry and fresh!

Desiccant powder bacteria testing

The objective of this test was to compare various drying powders for their efficacy with regard to inhibiting bacterial growth. We began by swabbing the heat mats in an inhabited farrowing room. We cultured these samples on nutrient agar. After incubating for 48 hours we had substantial growth.

Typing revealed that Strep, Staph, and E.Coli were all present. We homogenized these bacterial colonies and used them to seed more culture plates. We divided these culture plates into quarters and applied three treatments per plate, leaving one quarter untreated as a control.

The treatments consisted of 100 mg disks of each drying powder applied to the center of the quartered, seeded section of culture plate. We then incubated at 35°C and observed and documented bacterial growth of each treated area.

RESULTS

DRYGIENE™ @ 48 hours
No bacterial growth in treated area
2.5cm halo surrounding treated area

Product A @ 48 hours
Bacterial growth right to the
edge of the treated area
No halo surrounding treated area

Product B @ 48 hours
Bacterial growth right to the
edge of the treated area
No halo surrounding treated area

Product C @ 48 hours
No bacterial growth in treated area
2.2cm halo surrounding treated area

Product D @ 48 hours
Bacterial growth right to the
edge of the treated area
No halo surrounding treated area

Product E @ 48 hours
Bacterial growth right to the
edge of the treated area
No halo surrounding treated area

Product F @ 48 hours
Bacterial growth right to the
edge of the treated area
No halo surrounding treated area

culture plates from test

The images below show the actual culture plates from the dessicant powder bacteria test. The discoloration on the culture plate is the growing bacteria. The disks are the drying powder treatment areas and the clear rings or “halo” surrounding the DRYGIENE™ and Product C treatments are areas free of bacterial growth.

conclusion

DRYGIENE™ is a very effective treatment for controlling growth of the most common bacteria in livestock facilities. Of the 6 competing products tested, only Product C came close to matching the anti-bacterial effectiveness of DRYGIENE™. However in testing absorption, Product C fails miserably in comparison with DRYGIENE™. Product C is also very harsh with regard to the eyes and skin.

This test further demonstrates that DRYGIENE™ is an excellent tool for improving the hygiene of livestock facilities and ultimately improving the health of your animals.
